Joel S. Perwin was a shareholder for twenty‑two years in the Miami law firm of Podhurst, Orseck, P.A., before establishing his own firm in 2004, specializing in appellate litigation and trial support. Before returning to Miami in 1981, he served as Counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee; Associate Counsel to Vice President Walter F. Mondale; Assistant United States Attorney in Washington, D.C.; and law clerk to the Honorable Bailey Aldrich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College in 1970, where he was National Intercollegiate Debating Champion his Junior year, and Cum Laude in 1974 from Harvard Law School, where he served as Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review. He was born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida.
Mr. Perwin has been a Board member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, now the Florida Justice Association, as well as Chairman of it Amicus Curiae Committee, and of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1995, and in the top‑tier appellate category in Chambers USA’s America’s Leading Lawyers for Business since it began listing appellate lawyers in 2004.
